Arts Walk at Brookland Works

Maurice Walters Architect provided architectural design services for the conceptual design and Planned Unit Development (PUD) Application for this mixed-use development. We were also Design Architect for the PUD Phase, Schematic Design, and Design Development Phases.

The site is located adjacent to the Brookland/Catholic University Metro Station and is part of a five-block mixed-use redevelopment of the Catholic University South Campus. The central feature of the Arts Walk is a new pedestrian street that is an extension of 8th Street, NE between Monroe Street and the Michigan Avenue viaduct. Ground-level artists' studios and retail space open on to the new pedestrian Arts Walk, and a new public piazza is situated at its north end.

The program consists of below-grade parking, ground level retail, artists’ studios, and upper-level rental housing.

Cathedral Common Townhomes

Maurice Walters Architect provided full architectural services through construction administration for this townhouse project, which is adjacent to a larger mixed-use redevelopment including apartments, retail, and a Giant grocery store. The site is located in Washington, DC, immediately north of the National Cathedral.

The project includes eight townhouses, all with rear terraces covering a garage entry drive. Construction was completed in Spring 2015.

The Bartlett

The Bartlett

For this mixed-use development, Maurice Walters Architect provided architectural design services for the conceptual design and Arlington County 4.1 site plan process. The project is located in Arlington, Virginia, near the Pentagon City and Crystal City Metro stations. It will include new residential towers with 699 apartments around a central courtyard space, below-grade parking, and a 36,000 square foot full-service Whole Foods grocery at ground level.

This project is a condominium residential development located at the intersection of Woodmont Avenue and Battery Lane in downtown Bethesda, adjacent to the NIH. The project includes ground-floor retail space designated for a restaurant, and 46 condominium units on nine floors.

Maurice Walters Architect provided schematic design for this project. In collaboration with the Architect of Record, they are also participating in the design development and construction document phases of the project.

Town Center

For this project, Maurice Walters Architect provided urban design and architectural design services for the conceptual design and Planned Unit Development (PUD) application. In addition to the PUD, it went through the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB), and it was approved for concept in both.

The project is a multi-family residential development on a site located adjacent to the Waterfront Metro station, in Southwest Washington, DC. It consists of two existing residential towers designed by I.M. Pei, and replaces existing asphalt parking lots on the site with two new flanking 11-story residential towers, of 188 units each.

Located on a site along the vibrant 14th Street corridor, this mixed-use project consists of ground-floor retail, second-floor office space, and 30 rental apartments on the upper floors.

Edgewood Art Building at Monroe Street Market

Maurice Walters Architect provided architectural design services for the conceptual design and Planned Unit Development Application, and, in addition, provided Design Architect services for the Schematic Design and Design Development Phases. The site is part of a five-block mixed-use redevelopment of the Catholic University South Campus.

The building's program consists of approximately 3,000 square feet of open, flexible interior space plus a small catering kitchen and restrooms, to be used for performances, exhibits and as meeting space.

Slayton House

Slayton House

Located in the Cleveland Park Historic District, the Slayton House was designed by I. M. Pei and built in 1960 and is listed in the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. The previous homeowner had undertaken renovations by Hugh Newell Jacobsen in the early 2000s. The current homeowners purchased the home in the summer of 2009, and Maurice Walters Architect, PC led the current renovations. Maurice Walters met with staff members of the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Office during the design process to apprise them of the efforts and gain feedback in advance of building permit sign-off. All renovations were modeled using Revit software, with many three dimensional representations of details available for increased understanding of the impact to the existing historical structure.

For this mixed-use development, Maurice Walters Architect provided urban design and architectural design services for the conceptual design and Planned Unit Development Application. The site is located in northeast Washington, DC at the intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road, and would serve as a prominent gateway into the Nation's Capital.The project consists of 69,000 sf of retail space along New York Avenue, 1,400 multi-family residential units, a daycare center, health club, retail and residential parking, and amenities. A network of three internal streets is introduced to the 16-acre site, creating a pedestrian-friendly, interconnected neighborhood.

The site is located in Northwest Washington DC near the National Cathedral. It consists of an existing house that was preserved and moved to the front of the site with the design of a new 7 unit residential building directly behind the existing. This project is currently under construction.

Anthem II

Anthem II

Anthem II is a new 5 story mixed use building in Baltimore, MD. The project consists of 52 rental apartment and related amenities. Two adjacent rowhomes and a small cafe are also renovated. The project is a collaboration between David Baker Architects from San Francisco as Design Architect and Maurice Walters Architect as the Architect of Record.

This project has received SPRC approval and final approval from UDARP and construction is anticipated to begin in early 2017.

The Georgetown

The Georgetown

The site is located at 2512 Q St NW, Washington D.C. The building was designed by A.H. Sonnemann and  built in 1923.  Maurice Walters Architect  successfully led the project through the Old Georgetown Board (OGB) and Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) approval process. The project consists of renovations to the existing building with 96 rental apartment units and amenities. Start of construction is anticipated for late 2016.

402 H St is a building of historic character that is steps away from a new H Street streetcar stop. The existing façade will be retained and renovated. The renovated building will to consist of retail space, office space and residential apartments. Construction is expected to begin Fall of 2017.
